The Fruit of Gratefulness in Leadership

I’m feeling especially grateful today.  I had the amazing opportunity to have lunch with a former client who prior to today, I had only met via Zoom.  Why was this such a big deal, you ask?  Well, because she is visiting from the Ukraine.

Back in 2022, our coaching sessions were interrupted by the war, but we were able to finish and she is thriving as a leader in her organization. Her positive mindset and grateful disposition are inspiring. Seeing her in person today reminded me of the power of gratitude in leadership.

  1. It Builds Strong Relationships: When we express gratitude towards our colleagues, it strengthens trust and makes others feel valued and appreciated.

  2. It Boosts Morale and Motivation: Gratitude has the incredible ability to uplift spirits and inspire others. Acknowledging and appreciating hard work and dedication creates a positive work culture and helps motivate others to give their best.

  3. It Encourages Innovation and Creativity: Gratitude fosters an environment where individuals feel safe to take risks and suggest innovative ideas which can bring fresh perspectives to the table.

  4. It Cultivates Resilience: In challenging times, gratitude can act as a powerful antidote. It helps us maintain a positive mindset and see opportunities amidst difficulties. As leaders, our ability to remain grateful in the face of adversity inspires our team to do the same, fostering resilience and perseverance.

Gratitude is not just a one-time thing and it’s not just reserved for the month of November. It's a mindset that we, like my client, can cultivate and practice daily. I encourage you to make it a habit to express appreciation and gratitude as a core part of your leadership.
