Work on Retention of Tech Talent Now to Avoid the Predicted Exodus of Employees Post-COVID
Attracting and retaining great technical talent has been a challenge for as far back as I can remember. But it’s about to get even more challenging for every company.
And according to that survey, most of those workers said they are worried about career growth.
Replacing employees is expensive. There are recruiting and on-boarding costs as well as the opportunity cost of the time it takes for someone to get up-to-speed in a new role – which also impacts team members and project deadlines.
So what are you doing NOW to ensure you retain your top tech talent?
One of the most impactful things you can do is invest in your leaders and high potential employees.
Leaders have the most influence on the engagement and satisfaction of their people – which ultimately impacts retention. Extraordinary technical leaders have these qualities:
They know their own strengths and limitations.
They connect with their people.
They are excellent communicators who inspire their teams.
They are savvy at working through difficult people issues.
And they leverage the strengths of their employees to help ensure the work is meaningful to them.
Strong tech leaders are masters at building a culture that attracts, engages, and retains top talent.
Be honest. Do all of your technical leaders have these characteristics? If the answer is no, it is not too late. It takes focused effort and work, but they can be developed.
